Ryuichi Sakamoto was born in Tokyo, Japan, and from a young age his passion for the arts blossomed.  He has been described as a “Renaissance Man”, because not only is he a composer, he is a musician, producer, actor, and environmental activist.  With so many components to his life, when he composes music, the music is meant to say something.  Evidently, the critics and public alike have received his message, and multiple awards sit upon his mantle at home.  Not only is Sakamoto’s music rooted in Japanese tradition, its rooted in the world—from nature, other nations, and everything in between.
